Tour Description

This tour starts in Ndjamena in Chad and ends in Yaounde in Cameroon. In Chad, we shall visit the park of Doukouya located some 60 km from Ndjamena for wildlife safari of monkeys, chimps and hippopotamuses, and observation of the rocky landscape. We shall drive from Blangoua and board a boat for an excursion to the Kofia Market, an island market in Lake Chad Region and enjoy this site for half a day.

In the Cameroonian side, we shall visit the Waza National Park. This park has a surface area of 1,700 square kilometres and it is the best and most visited national park in Cameroon. Wildlife such as giraffes, elephants, many species of antelope, lion, warthog, cheetah, waterbuck, tophi, red-fronted gazelle, domilesque, hartebeest, buffaloes, baboons, and monkeys abound. Bird watchers could view eagles, hornbills, pelicans, ducks, gooses, herons, marabous, guinea-fowls and many other rare species.

Oudjilla, a village located at the Podoko hill top in northern Cameroon is on the agenda. Here, the round thatched mud houses are a distinctive feature. We shall visit the Oudjilla chief palace and greet the chief with his over 50 wives and hundreds of children.

Next is the Tourou market, a very picturesque market. Here, we find women wearing carved calabashes on their heads that look like the helmets of soldiers with various designs. The designs of the helmets reveal the marital status of the women. At Rhumsiki, we shall visit the crab sorcerer and the coppersmith workshops at Amsa before concluding the tour in Yaounde where we shall visit the primates at the Mefou National Park.
