Tour Description
For the next 9 days, this tour gives you the chance to explore the best of North Cameroon and to visit one of the biggest parks in West Africa; the Waza National Park. It is an amazing part of our adventure attractions and is an incredible highlight to experience. It is found just a few kilometres from the borders of Nigeria and Chad. With an area of 170.000 hectares, The Waza National Park offers a diverse wildlife including lions, elephants, giraffes, ostriches, antelopes, several species of birds, etc. The park initially began as a hunting reserve and became a national park in 1968. In 1979, the park achieved a UNESCO World Heritage status as a biosphere reserve.
The tour will also permit you to experience the famous peaks of Rhumsiki within the Mandara Mountains and much more over the next 9 days. Plenty of driving is involved in the tour and this offers you a great opportunity to have a good vision safari of the Cameroonian landscape. You should also look forward to spending quality time with the northern locals in their villages and exploring the art of different handicrafts that many of them are experts in.
Daily program
Day 1: Abroad – Nsimalen International Airport – Yaounde
Welcome of guest at the airport, transfer to hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Yaounde – Nsimalen International Airport – Maroua
Wake up, breakfast, relaxation and transfer to the Nsimalen Airport in the afternoon for CAMAIRCO flight to Maroua. Arrival in Maroua, city tour, drive to hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Maroua – Rhumsiki (135 km)
Breakfast and drive to Rhumsiki. It is a village that is most famous for its multiple lunar style peaks. It is located in the Mandara Mountains, just a few kilometres from the border of Nigeria. The peaks are unique and magnificent with the most famous of them being the Kapsiki Peak, reaching up to 1224 metres of altitude. It is a unique and must see landscape in Cameroon.
Next, we will do some hiking to explore the village and discover its hidden treasures. This evening is free for you to explore and enjoy. Dinner at the Rhumsiki camping and overnight.
Day 4: Rhumsiki – Oudjilla – Waza National Park (200 km)
Early morning wake up to admire the beautiful and glowing sunrise in the Rhumsiki Village. We will visit the potters and weavers of the village and discover the objects they fabricate. We will then drive from Rhumsiki to Djingliya and then continue to Oudjilla. Here, we will visit the Chief Palace of Oudjilla and chat with the Chief of the village. After, we will continue driving through the fascinating landscape to the Waza National Park. Arrival, dinner and overnight in the Waza camping.
Day 5: Waza National Park
Explore the great Waza National Park the whole day. Return to the Waza camping in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Waza – Maga – Pouss – Maga (160 km)
Drive to Pouss village, the best site to admire the Mousgoum shell hut architecture. Visit the Sultanate of Pouss, and study the culture of the Mousgoum people. Drive to Maga, and visit the lake. Explore the fishing village and fish market. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Maga – Mindif – Maroua (145 km)
Drive to Mindif and discover its teeth-shaped mountains offering a unique view. Meet artists and calabash carvers renowned for the quality of their art. Return to Maroua and visit the handicraft centre for souvenirs. Dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Maroua – Bidzar – Gorges of Kola – Garoua – Nsimalen International Airport – Yaounde
Breakfast and drive to the archaeological site of Bidzar. This village has marble paintings and carvings which date thousands of years back. Visit the Gorges of Kola, some gigantic and impressive rocky rifts. Drive to Garoua for a city tour. Relaxation, lunch and take off to the Garoua Airport for domestic flight to Yaounde.
Day 9: Nsimalen International Airport – Yaounde – Abroad
Breakfast and city tour of Yaounde. Purchase of some arts objects from the Yaounde Artisanal Centre for souvenirs. Lunch, transfer to the Nsimalen International Airport for home flight. End of tour.
