This is an ecotourism tour that will take you to the Lobeke National Park in the extreme south-east of Cameroon for you to be immersed in nature and communed with the forest peoples. The Lobeke National Park covers an area of 217,854 hectares and is adjacent to two neighboring national parks; the Dzanga-Sangha National Park of the Central African Republic and the Nouabale Ndoki National Park of Congo. These trio form what is known as the Sangha Tri-National, a biodiversity cross-border conservation initiative. They made up a UNESCO world heritage.
The Lobeke National Park has several small forest clearings which are rich in minerals and salts. These forest clearings do attract a large variety of large forest mammals such as elephants, buffaloes, gorillas, chimpanzees, and antelopes. These forest clearings are commonly referred to by the Ba’aka Pygmy people as “bais”. The Lobeke National Park is very rich in fauna and flora. Its rich and varied biodiversity is made up of 45 mammal species, 305 bird species, 18 reptiles species, 16 amphibians species, 134 fishes species, 215 butterflies species, and 764 plant species.
Daily program
Day 1: Abroad – Nsimalen International Airport – Yaounde
Welcome at the Nsimalen International Airport and transfer to hotel; Dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Yaounde – Bertoua – Batouri
Early morning departure from Yaounde to Batouri. Make several stopovers along the way to visit several attractions including cities, villages, and pygmy camps. Overnight in a small hotel.
Day 3: Batouri – Yokadouma – Mambele
Drive to Mambele village, where you will experience a cultural and traditional pygmy dance in the evening. Overnight in a guesthouse.
Day 4: Mambele – Lobeke National Park
Administrative formalities with the park authorities and departure to the forest. Installation in the “Petite Savanne” camp, snack and rest. Start of animal observation or wildlife safari in the “Petite Savanne” in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 5: Lobeke National Park (“Petite Savanne”)
This day is consecrated to wildlife safari in and around the “Petite Savanne”.
Day 6: Lobeke National Park (“Grande Savanne”)
Breakfast and departure from the “Petite Savanne” to the “Grande Savanne”. Whole day observation of the animals here and overnight in the “Grande Savanne” camp.
Day 7: Lobeke National Park
Safari in “Grande Savanne” in the morning, and trek back to the “Petite Savanne” in the afternoon. Arrival, dinner and overnight in the “Petite Savanne” camp.
Day 8: Lobeke National Park – Mambele (“Petite Savanne”)
Safari in the “Petite Savanne” in the morning. Departure to the car drop off point in the afternoon. Arrival at the car drop off point and drive to Mambele. Arrival at Mambele, activities with pygmies in the evening, dinner and overnight in the guest house.
Day 9: Mambele – Yokadouma – Batouri
Drive to Batouri via Salapoumbe and Yokadouma. Arrival and overnight in a small hotel at Batouri.
Day 10: Batouri – Yaounde
Drive from Batouri to Yaounde. Arrival in the evening, dinner and overnight.
Day 11: Yaounde – Nsimalen International Airport – Abroad
City tour of Yaounde and purchase of souvenir objects. Transfer to the Nsimalen International Airport in the evening for home flight and End of tour.
