This ecotourism tour will take you to the Nki National Park in the south-east of Cameroon where you will be immersed in nature and communed with the indigenous forest peoples. The Nki National Park is often described as “the last true woodland of Cameroon”. The park is still extremely remote and almost completely untouched. Together with the Boumba Bek, Lobeke, Dzanga Sangha, and the Nouabale Ndoki National Park, it forms part of the Congo basin forest.The density and diversity of the forest of this park will give you a unique and rare opportunity to experience nature in its natural and primitive form. The park covers an area of over 300,000 hectares and has an extremely diverse ecosystem. It shelters more than 250 species of birds , various wildlife including elephants and gorillas. There is an estimated population of 6000 gorillas in the park.
The tour also allows guests to really explore and feel the kindness of the Ba’Aka Pygmies. Their culture and lifestyle is one of the most amazing wonders on Planet Earth.
Daily Program
Day 1: Abroad – Nsimalen International Airport – Yaounde
Welcome of guest at the airport, transfer to hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Yaounde – Abong Mbang – Lomie – Messok Village (450km)
Early morning drive to the Nki National Park by passing through many towns including Ayos, Abong Mbang, Lomie and to Messok. Messok Village is essentially the headquarters of the Nki National Park. Arrival at Messok Village in the evening, Park entry formalities, dinner and overnight in tents at Messok Village.
Day 3: Messok Village – Mesobo Forest
Early morning breakfast and start of hike from Messok Village to the Mesobo Forest. The distance for the hike is about 10km and can be difficult as the forest is not a lowland. There are some hills involved. Snack and dinner in the forest and overnight in camping in the Mesobo Forest.
Day 4: Mesobo Forest – Ikwa Forest Clearing
Breakfast and start of hike for another 10kms to the Ikwa Forest clearing. Ikwa is a marshy grassland about double the size of a football field. The location seems to be a wildlife haven and is frequented by gorillas, elephants, Sitatungas, Buffaloes, and much more. Snack and dinner in the forest and overnight at the watchtower of the Ikwa Bai.
Days 5 and 6: Ikwa Forest Bai
These days are dedicated entirely to wildlife safari at the Ikwa Bai. Overnight in camping still at the watchtower of the Ikwa Bai.
Day 7: Ikwa Bai – Mesobo Forest
Breakfast and early morning wildlife observation. Start of trek back to the Mesobo Forest. Snack and dinner in the forest and overnight at the Mesobo Forest.
Day 8: Mesobo Forest – Messok Village
Breakfast and early morning wildlife sightings. Start of second hike back to Messok Village. Snack on the way, dinner and overnight in tents at Messok Village.
Day 9: Messok Village- Yaounde
This morning we will get up as early as possible to start making our way from Messok Village back to Yaounde. Lunch on the way. Arrive Yaounde at about 7pm, dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Yaounde – Nsimalen International Airport – Abroad
This morning you can do souvenir shopping in the handicraft centre of the city of Yaounde before your transfer to the international airport in the evening for home flight. End of our services.
